TONY SASA (Piedmont/Tuscany, Italy)
A unique addition to our family is the fabled, fine-wine furnisher of Firenze, Tony Sasa. He is owner of the Enoteca Pontevecchio, located in the heart of Florence. He is a man bent on finding the best yet-to-be-known wine of Italy, for his shop and for export, and uses his palate and friends to succeed. He is considered the local expert in soils, climates and vintages, as well as what is going on in so many cellars in Italy. He is passionate about wine and those that make it honestly and naturally, travelling and writing about them to promote them worldwide. He is an associate member of the CIV, a consortium that prides itself in its relentless work in researching, educating and promotion of Italian wines and food of real quality. All of the above, provides him the access to the cellars he wants to be in. His Babaresco is an obvious result of smart barrel hunting in Piedmont. In Montalcino, he partners with the remarkable eonologist Paolo Caciorgna, for his passionate endeavors in his own vineyard, creating roughly 6000 bottles a year of sangiovese. He is a non-stop craver of wine and the channel for many small growers to bring their wine to the table. We welcome his wines, as new members of the family, giving them a home among producers Tony would love to represent (and surely drink with!). In the spirit of Savio Soares Selections, these are wines that are expressive an ultimately, a pleasure to drink!
